Calçots are a variety of green onions, although milder, with a small bulb. They are lightly grilled in hot ashes and are supported at the base as they grow. Consumption of calçots or more popularly, calçotada, has become a well known gastronomic feast, especially in Catalunya. Calçots are usually eaten in the months of January, February and March, sided by a typical Romesco type sauce. CONSERVES FERRER manufactures this calçots sauce, being one of the top products during its season. The nourishing properties of calçots are important, as they have large contents of vitamins and minerals. |
